Copilot Studio can now run your workflows for you. Here’s what’s changed

Most businesses are using AI for the easy stuff. Drafting emails, answering questions and summarising meeting notes. But getting it to actually handle a workflow from start to finish, that’s where things usually fall apart.

Until now.

The most recent update to Copilot Studio means less manual work for you, fewer dropped balls between systems, and, for the first time, AI that actually talks to itself so you don’t have to be the one connecting the dots.

Here is what is new and why it matters if you are running a business in construction, mining or professional services.

Your AI agents can now work as a team

Up until now, AI agents inside Microsoft 365 have mostly worked in isolation. One agent handles customer queries. Another manages project milestones. A third is pulling site data.

Each one is useful on its own, but getting them to hand off work to each other required custom workarounds and a LOT of patience.

The problem is your business doesn’t operate that way. Information moves between people, systems and departments constantly.

When your AI can’t do the same, someone has to fill the gap manually.

And that someone is usually you.

That’s where the update fixes things. Think of it like finally having a well-run back office. Your project coordinator, your data person, and your ops manager all have the same information. Finally handing work to each other without you having to constantly be the middle man.

Most small businesses don’t have that kind of manpower.

Now, with Copilot Studio, you do.

Three capabilities are now rolling out to general availability:

Multi-agent support for Microsoft Fabric

Fabric is Microsoft’s data platform, and your Copilot Studio agents can now weave together. They can now pull from your site reports, procurement records and project financials to work with the full picture rather than a limited snapshot.

Multi-agent support for the Microsoft 365 Agents SDK

Instead of rebuilding the same logic across multiple agents, your existing agents can now share capabilities and hand off work to each other. Everything now stays consistent without you having to play coach.

Agent-to-agent (A2A) communication

Copilot Studio agents can now communicate directly with other agents. Consider it their mission to enhance what’s already in your toolkit. This includes third-party and anything outside the Microsoft ecosystem. They can share tasks, pass work between them and get jobs done. For businesses running a mix of tools and platforms, your AI is no longer locked inside one product boundary.

Coca-Cola Beverages Africa is already using this approach with Copilot Studio and Microsoft Dynamics 365 to automate planning workflows end to end. This saves planners between one and one and a half hours every day.

Building and refining agents just got a lot less painful

The new immersive Prompt Builder puts everything you need to build and refine an agent into one place. Update instructions, switch models, add knowledge sources, and test outputs. All from inside each agent’s Tools tab without losing your place.

Previously, that process meant jumping between a separate editor and your agent, making a small change, testing it, going back, adjusting again. That friction added up fast. Now it doesn’t have to.

More control over content moderation

Copilot Studio has also added content moderation settings for prompts. This gives teams more control over how sensitive the AI is to certain types of content, which matters in industries like construction, healthcare, and law enforcement where default settings can sometimes be overly cautious for legitimate use cases.

More model options

The Prompt Tool now supports a wider range of AI models, including Anthropic Claude Opus 4.6 and Claude Sonnet 4.5 (paid experimental preview, US only), as well as Grok 4.1 Fast, GPT-5.3 Thinking, and GPT-5.4 Instant. That might not mean anything to you, but you now have more options to match the right model to the right job based on speed, reasoning depth and cost.

A few other updates worth knowing about

  • ServiceNow and Azure DevOps connectors improved. Agents now retrieve the right ticket or work item data and return more complete answers automatically.
  • Teams meeting agents can now access real-time transcripts and group chat. Useful for answering questions mid-meeting, surfacing context, or tracking decisions as they happen.
  • Evaluation automation APIs now generally available. Run quality checks on agents programmatically and integrate them into CI/CD workflows.
  • Expanded MCP app support. Agents can now connect to and act across more external business systems, not just respond with information.

The bigger picture

Copilot Studio has always been useful. These updates make it capable of doing things that previously required custom development, a dedicated IT team, or a lot of manual input from you.

For construction, mining, and professional services businesses, the sky is the limit.

Agents that share context, collaborate across tools, and can be tuned to your industry. Running more of your workflows in the background while your team focuses on the work that actually needs them.

Now, if only they would get your coffee too.
