This morning waking up there was an announcement that the Australian Government would hold a special press conference in regards to a detection of a massive cyber attack from a ‘sophisticated, state-based actor’.

The details were a bit light however they mentioned that “This activity is targeting Australian Organizations across a range of sectors, including all levels of government, industry, political organizations, education, health, essential service providers and operators of other critical infrastructure’

This has always been a constant threat as anything connected to the internet or a network has the potential to be compromised.

The defence minister has urged that all Australian organisations take 3 stepts to protect themselves:

  • Patch all internet-facing devices promptly, ensuring that any web or email servers are fully updated with the latest software.
  • Ensure you always use multi-factor authentication to secure your internet access, infrastructure and also your cloud-based platforms
  • Become an ACSC partner to ensure you get the latest cyber thread advice to protect your organization online
